Backstory

As I mentioned before, I wanted to explore different kinds of projects using paper Mache clay. While looking for inspiration, I came across a bangle made with paper Mache clay (though I’m not sure if it was flour-based or flourless). I really liked the idea and decided to create my own version, and that’s how this bangle came to life.

Written Step-By-Step Instructions

  1. Get an empty food can or any other cylindrical object. Wrap cling wrap around it and  secure it using masking tape so it stays in palce.

2. Roll the paper mache clay into a rope shape and flatten it slightly. Apply school glue or white glue and attach it neatly along the rim of the can.

3. When the clay dries, pull the ring off of the can.

4. Next, sand the edges of the ring to achieve a smoother, neater finish

5. Using a silicone mold, make flowers with clay and allow them to dry completely. Once dry, stick the flowers onto the bangle as shown.

 6. Paint the bangle using white, red, and metallic gold paint. Once dry, stick rhinestones to embellish the bangle.

7. This how the bangle looks. This is wearable piece of jewellery.

Tips

  1. Paper mache clay behaves a little differently from regular clay, but with a bit of practice, it can be used to create beautiful jewellery pieces. As shown in this project, you can still achieve lovely results with simple techniques.

2. You can use cardboard as a base to make earrings or a pendant for a necklace. Feel free to experiment with different base materials.

3. If you wish, you can also make this bangle using other types of clay. Paper mache clay comes off cling wrap quite easily without breaking. Other clays may behave differently.

Final Word

I hope you enjoyed this jewellery-making idea. This bangle is completely wearable. I used a can as the base, but you can use any cylindrical item to make the bangle, allowing you to easily adjust the size to suit your requirement.
