Description:
In this post you will learn how to make paper mache clay. Its a simple recipe with only three ingredients. Paper, water and glue. I used newspaper but you can also use other types of paper like printer paper, regular cardboard or egg carton cardboard. Feel free to experiment with whatever you have on hand to see what works best. The recipe remains the same in all cases.
I used paper mache clay to give a stone-like texture to a vase I created. Unlike many other clays, paper mache clay doesn’t shrink as it dries, and it’s surprisingly lightweight. If you’re looking to add a unique texture or finish to your DIY projects, paper mache clay is a great option to explore
Materials Used
- newspaper ( Or Egg carton cardboard, printer paper, regular cardboard etc)
- School Glue
- hot water
- Blender
Step-By-Step Instructions to Make Paper Mache Clay.
- In a big pot I tore up newspaper and egg carton in small pieces.

2. Poured almost boiling water on the paper until the paper emersed completely in the water. put the lid on the pot and set it aside for an hour or two so the paper would breakdown.

3. Next I blended the paper in a blender to get the paper pulp.

4. Squeezed out water from the pulp as much as possible.

5. When almost all the water is squeezed out, collect the pulp in a container.

6. Separate the lumps of the pulp and then pour some school glue and start kneading the mixture. Knead until you get a nice ball or dough (clay).

Tip
Do not add glue at once. Start with some glue. Knead to see if it forms a ball. If not then add some more glue. Again knead the mixture until it forms a ball or dough.
If the dough gets too runny you will have to spread it on a surface like butter. But if you can break small ball out of the dough and shape it then you know you got the clay!
Use Of this Clay
The Pot is made with the clay. The wall decor is made with clay paste.

I see other paper clay recipes use flour and maybe a pinch of salt. How does those additives make the clay different?
Salt acts as a preservative and flour is used to soak up extra moister in the clay. Flour also makes the clay stiffer. If you need the clay for detailing, I think using flour would work better. In my project where I used the clay with silicon molds or just applied to the pot I didn’t need to use the flour. I hope this helps.
Needed to create you the little bit of note to be able to give many thanks yet again over the lovely techniques you have documented in this article. This is really particularly generous of people like you to offer freely precisely what a number of people would’ve offered for sale for an ebook in making some cash for their own end, even more so now that you could possibly have done it in case you wanted. Those principles as well served to be a fantastic way to be sure that most people have the same keenness just like my personal own to figure out a great deal more when it comes to this matter. Certainly there are some more pleasurable sessions up front for people who check out your blog post.
Thank you so much! I’m glad the newspaper clay method was helpful. I enjoy sharing my techniques on the blog, and it means a lot to know readers find them useful. I look forward to hearing more feedback from you. Thanks again
