Description
I made paper Mache clay using newspaper. I used only three ingredients but flour or starch is not one of them.

Material List
- Newspaper
- White Glue Or School Glue
- Water
- Blender
- Pots
- Cloth
- Measuring Cups
Step-By-Step Instructions
- In a big pot I tore up newspaper and egg carton in small pieces.
2. Poured almost boiling water on the paper until the paper emersed completely in the water. put the lid on the pot and set it aside for an hour or two so the paper would breakdown.
3. Next I blended the paper in a blender to get the paper pulp.
4. Squeezed out water from the pulp as much as possible.
5. When almost all the water is squeezed out, collect the pulp in a container.
6. Seperate lumps by putting the pulp in blender. That way you get fibrous pulp.
I measured 3 cups of pulp and 1/2 cup of glue.
Then kneed clay by adding glue gradually.
Keep kneeding until you get a smooth clay ball.
Tips
- Do not add glue at once. Start with some glue. Knead to see if it forms a ball. If not then add some more glue. Again knead the mixture until it forms a ball or dough.
2. If the dough gets too runny you will have to spread it on a surface like butter. But if you can break small ball out of the dough and shape it then you know you got the clay!
3. This clay can’t be stored like usual clay since it becomes lumpy and watery. You may store it for couple of days.
4. Store pulp. This way you can mix glue with pulp and make the clay when you need it.
5. This clay does not behave like regular clay but you still can make a ball, a flat circle with a rolling pin,a small rope and you can make motifs using silicon molds.
Use Of this Clay
The Pot is made with the clay. The wall decor is made with clay paste.

Final Word
Although Flourless paper Mache clay doesnt behave like a regular clay, you can do number of projects from wall art to home decor to jewelry with this clay. Since it can be used with silicon molds, this clay is very beginner friendly. It is easy to make and anyone can make it. Please try this clay and let me know your experience in the comment box.
I see other paper clay recipes use flour and maybe a pinch of salt. How does those additives make the clay different?
Salt acts as a preservative and flour is used to soak up extra moister in the clay. Flour also makes the clay stiffer. If you need the clay for detailing, I think using flour would work better. In my project where I used the clay with silicon molds or just applied to the pot I didn’t need to use the flour. I hope this helps.
