    Backstory

I stumbled upon a stunning video where someone used rhinestone wrap, mirrors, and trim on a foam board. I was immediately inspired! Being a huge fan of anything sparkly, I couldn’t wait to try it myself. I sketched my own unique design and decided to elevate the idea by creating it on canvas. The result? A shimmering masterpiece I’m proud of, and you will be too!

    Written Step-By-Step Instructions

Gathered All The Materials: Dollar Tree 9″ mirror, small craft mirrors, rhinestone wrap and canvas (I used 22″ by 28″)

Next I painted canvas with mixture of blue and black acrylic paints.

After the paint dried I transferred the design on the canvas using transfer paper.

Here is the the transferred design.

Next I cut rhinestone wrap in strips

There were two treads running through the rhinestones. I cut thread on one side so the strip becomes pliable.

You can see below how the wrap gets draped around the circular shape when one side of the tread is cut.

Below you can see when the thread isn’t cut the wrap doesn’t drape easily around a curve.

Next I applied E-6000 glue along the lines of the design and stuck the strips on the lines making an outline with the strips.

After the outline was done I filled the part with rhinestone strips.

To stick the strip in corners I cut it at an angle so it fit well right in a corner.

While sticking the wrap if you notice some gaps, you can cut the wrap at an angle and stick in place oy cut individual rhinestones and fill the gaps up. I have shown some examples below.

You can see the gap again below so you can compare above photo with it.

Next I first stuck craft mirrors on the small circles on the design and in the center stuck 9″ mirror I got from Dollar Tree.

Now I stuck a silver floral trim around the mirror.

I cut a few flowers from the trim and stuck them in different places on the design.

Next I mixed Mod Podge gloss glue and blue and silver mica powder and applied the mixture on canvas to add extra sparkle on it.

    Tips

    1. Need Patience: This DIY is quite straight forward but I would say you would need quite a bit of patience to cut the rhinestones wrap and the thread that runs down the wrap.
    2. Applying Mod podge Mixture: I applied Mog podge/mica powder mixture at the end and not in the beginning because I didn’t know if design would transfer on a surface covered with mod podge. But AI says it is possible to transfer the design on the mod podge covered surface. I would suggest, You can test it on a small portion and take it from there. Just my two cents.

I hope you liked the DIY. I would love to hear your thoughts and suggestions. Please feel free to leave messages in the box below.
