    Backstory

I was searching online for DIY cardboard furniture ideas and came across a decorative floating wall shelf. Of course it was made of wood but I was going to recreate it out of cardboard and make it look like wood! So I grabbed a large, discarded sheet of cardboard from Sam’s Club (for free 99 ) and hooks from Dollar Tree. Now I was ready to start the craft. Although I had to add spackling paste later. I have always liked paper cutting. Something about it just mesmerizes me. Cardboard Cutting is tougher but I have figured out how to make it make it easy on my hands (tips below).

Checkout the preview of a few instructions and tips below. To help you make this shelf easily, I have included, detailed instructions and LOT of tips and accompanying videos in my How To Guide. I have explained above, what you would get in my ‘How To Guide’

    Written Step-By-Step Preview

        1. Started with two 17.5″ by 19.75″ cardboard rectangles. And transferred the chosen design on both the rectangles.

      2. Transfer the design on both the cardboard rectangles and cut the design out as shown.

      3. Next I stuck both the cut pieces together so I get one thick sturdy carved piece of cardboard.

      4. Next I covered the rough edges of the the design with paper napkin strips.

This is how it looks after the whole piece is done.

      17. Finally attached three hooks on the shelf.

You can hang light weight things like caps, light weight jackets, empty bags etc. Also you can place show pieces on the rack.

      Tips Preview

          1. Transfer Design with carbon paper: I cut the carbon paper to the exact size of the cardboard. This ensures the transfer of design isn’t lopsided or misaligned.

          1. Use thin corrugated cardboard: It’s easier to cut, especially with sharp craft blades, no frustration!
